TRANSIT
2017
Metal Foil Curtains, Aluminum Frame
3.9m X 2m X 2m
TRANSIT focuses on an existing transitional space in Waterloo Centre - the void deck. Void decks are multi-purpose, able to host various events, yet often remaining a dead space that we simply past through. In this overlooked space, the artist sees a form of threshold or purgatory. The installation created an in-between space within an in-between space, using a zone of string curtains that is mobile and porous. The intervention heightens the viewer's spatial sensitivity to the architecture of the void deck, and how the space can be flexible depending on the needs of its users.
The Noise Art Mentorship is part of Noise Singapore, an initiative of the National Arts Council. This year, the interdisciplinary art edition was co-programmed by OH! Open House from June 2016 to January 2017, and comprises mentoring sessions and workshops, culminating in this showcase.
Rifqi was under the mentorship of Speak Cryptic (Farizwan Fajari).
TRANSIT is a site-specific work that was exhibited in 262 Waterloo Centre, Level 5 Void Deck from 18-31 January 2017 as part of The NOISE Art Mentoship Showcase 2017.
